DETACHED DWELLING, GROUND FLOOR REAR EXTENSION AND INTERNAL REDESIGN
Client: Private
Project type: Whole House Refurbishment, Rear Extension, Introduction of Dormer & internal redesign.
Completed: September 2015
Approximate value: £80,000
The clients of this detached family house wanted to extend their ground floor living areas to provide additional and social space for their growing family, whilst maintaining a proportionate sized rear garden.
The brief provided to WGADD was to take the existing awkward shape/ sized kitchen and dining areas to the rear of the house and extend it to provide a high specification, social open plan kitchen, dining, utility and family area.
During the design process it was agreed that the utility space should be provided within the existing garage increasing the size of the kitchen area accordingly. The emphasis of the scheme was based upon the link to the garden and natural daylight within the open plan design, therefore a large rear opening was provided with Bi-fold doors. Roof lights were introduced to obtain as much natural light to the rear of the extension as possible, with the client’s choice of kitchen and floor finishes playing an important role in assisting with this.
